* Winter Talk by Richard Forrest titled * Plesiosaurs *
Wednesday February 10, 2016 | 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Cast of the Peterborough specimen of Simolestes vorax, originally identified by Alan Dawn (1991). This cast was part of the Walking with Dinosaurs exhibit; these photos were taken in the Bristol Museum.
“Forget dinosaurs: plesiosaurs are much more interesting, and are amongst the most abundant and best-preserved large vertebrates from this country. They dominated the seas for most of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This talk is about their discovery, and summarises what we know of their evolution., anatomy , biomechanics and behaviour as well how to recognise their bones in the field.’
